   Register as a PSSA student member (free) if you are an undergraduate applicant

   Download the PSSA/FPE bursary application form from the official page at pssa.org.za/fpe-bursaries.html

   Complete the application form and prepare your supporting documents

   Attach certified ID, academic transcripts, a motivational or lecturer's letter and your financial declaration

   Submit the completed application to the FPE administrator at the PSSA before the relevant closing date (postgraduate in early May, undergraduate around October)

Who runs the FPE bursary?

The bursary scheme is run by the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) through its Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (FPE), which administers the awards and assesses applications.

When do applications open and close?

Postgraduate applications open in March, with the 2026 postgraduate closing date being 4 May 2026. Undergraduate 2027 application forms are available from June 2026; the undergraduate window typically opens in June and closes around October (the 2025 undergraduate closing date was 11 October 2025).

Can first-year students apply for the undergraduate bursary?

No. The undergraduate bursary is for full-time BPharm students in their second or a subsequent year of study. You also need to be a registered PSSA student member (which is free), have passed all previous modules and have a minimum overall average of around 60%.

How is the bursary amount decided?

There is no fixed rand value published. Each award covers one academic year and is decided on a combination of your financial circumstances, academic achievement and any other financial assistance you already receive. Bursaries are renewable each year on reapplication.
