Frequently Asked Questions

Which universities does Moshal fund me to attend?

Moshal currently funds students at eight South African universities: UCT, Stellenbosch University, UWC, Wits, the University of Pretoria, UKZN, the University of the Free State and the University of Johannesburg. You must be accepted into a funded degree at one of them. Moshal notes that the degrees and universities it sponsors may change at its discretion.

What is the household income limit?

Your household income must be no more than R200,000 per year (before deductions). Moshal targets academically strong students who could not otherwise afford university.

When does the Moshal Scholarship close?

Moshal does not publish a closing date on its website. As of 12 October 2026 its application system for the 2027 intake was open, so apply as early as possible and contact southafrica@moshalprogram.org if you are unsure whether you can still apply.

Is the Moshal Scholarship more than money?

Yes. Moshal pairs full funding with a personal Program Coordinator, professional mentoring, workshops and training, career guidance (including meetings with employers and vacation work opportunities) and a scholar community that continues after graduation.
