South African Nursery Association (SANA)
The SANA Bursary is offered by the South African Nursery Association to students studying towards a Horticulture or Landscaping qualification at an accredited South African tertiary institution. It covers tuition fees for the current academic year and is aimed at students who have already completed their first year of study with a strong academic record. The bursary is administered directly by SANA and is awarded annually.

Eligibility Requirements
- ✓ South African citizen
- ✓ Completed Matric (Grade 12)
- ✓ Registered at an accredited South African tertiary institution for the academic year
- ✓ Studying towards a Horticulture or Landscaping qualification (preferably undergraduate; Masters/PhD reviewed case-by-case)
- ✓ Must have successfully completed all modules of the first academic year of study
- ✓ Minimum 60% overall average
- ✓ Must be, or apply to become, a SANA student member (free)

How to Apply
Steps to complete your South African Nursery Association (SANA) bursary application

Download the SANA Bursary Application Form, SANA Student Membership Application Form and Bursary Checklist for the relevant year from the SANA bursary page

Complete all forms and make sure you meet the criteria on page 1 of the application form

Gather your ID copy, photo, academic records, proof of tertiary registration and a motivation of at least 150 words

Email the completed forms, checklist and supporting documents to the bursary administrator at ayanda@sana.co.za

Submit before the 31 March closing date - incomplete or late applications are not considered

Applicants may be invited to an interview with a SANA representative in their region (held in April)

- What does the SANA Bursary cover?
- The bursary covers tuition fees for the current academic year, paid directly to your educational institution. It does NOT cover outstanding fees, registration fees, accommodation, practical training, travel, allowances or prescribed books. Successful applicants also receive free SANA student membership.
- Who can apply for the SANA Bursary?
- South African students who have completed Matric and are registered at an accredited South African tertiary institution studying towards a Horticulture or Landscaping qualification. You must have successfully completed all modules of your first academic year with a minimum 60% overall average, and be (or apply to become) a free SANA student member.

- Applications close on 31 March of the year being funded (31 March 2026 for 2026), with interviews in April. As of 12 October 2026 SANA had not yet published the 2027 forms; the 2026 forms appeared in October 2025.
When do 2027 applications open?
South African Nursery Association (SANA) has not yet announced dates for the 2027 intake.
SANA's bursary funds the current academic year: application forms are published around October and applications close on 31 March, with interviews in April (31 March 2026 for 2026). As of 12 October 2026 the bursary page still showed the 2026 forms, so the 2027 round had not opened.

The Cape Wools SA Bursary Fund (Wool Industry Bursary Trust) supports students preparing for a career in the South African wool industry - wool/sheep-focused agricultural studies, or textile and fashion design with a wool focus. Awarded annually on merit, it can cover registration and tuition fees, materials and books, and accommodation. Half of the allocation is aimed at agricultural college students (or wool-focused fashion and textile students), 60% of funding is earmarked for previously disadvantaged individuals, and recipients commit to seeking work in the wool industry for a year per year funded.

Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa (Land Bank) (administered in-house by Land Bank Human Resources)
The Land Bank External Bursary Programme funds South African students studying undergraduate agriculture at Agricultural Colleges registered with the Council on Higher Education (CHE). It covers full tuition fees plus prescribed books, a monthly living allowance, and accommodation and meal allowances where applicable. Preference is given to academically strong students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds and rural areas.
